It is almost impossible to evaluate some specific instance of jocularity for inclusion on this great site. Some are fond memories, some are perhaps figments of an overactive imagination or an alcoholic induced haze. It really doesn't matter. They are all FUN! But then again this is the whole purpose of this time honourd event.Suffice to say that the time when Guy was washed up in the living room and no matter what transgression was visited on him, he never moved. Some where there is a picture of him snoring away in the center of the living room with a splash of water on his shorts and a flower in his hands. Pricless.
A hearty thanks to Dave and everybody who has attended over the years for making this the event of the year.

Most I can't or shouldn't talk about. Pictures and video are available for a price!

I can't think of this week-end and not talk about how I got the nickname of Fire Queen. On Friday afternoon I started out as Brian's (the Fire Keeper) asssitant, helping him tend the fire. Early Saturday morning I chopped wood and started the fire so everyone could enjoy it when they woke up. When Brian came around later to check up on my progress, he decided to pass on the staff to me and gave me the nickname of Fire Queen. Stephen senconded the motion. Although my title was challenged and I eventually abdicated, I greatly enjoyed the role bestowed upon me for the weekend. Many thanks to my loyal subjects (namely Dave and Stephen) and those of you who challenged me (namely Ken) or thought of it - be warned - I intend to take the staff back next year ....

Dave, thanks again for an altogether very memorable weekend (the parts I remember anyway). And apart from ripping out my finger trying to remove a 1/2 inch long L shaped metal splinter with a pair of rusty pliers, misplacing my truck keys twice and swimming head first into your floating dock becuase I was busy making sure Gegg wasn't drowning with my scuba gear, I had a great weeknd and can't wait for next year's bash.

The Beer Prayer
submitted by the Rookies
Our Lager,
Which art in barrels,
Hallowed be thy drink.
Thy will be drunk,
(as I will be drunk),
At home, as in the tavern.
Give us this day our foamy head,
And forgive our spillages,
As we forgive those who spill agains us.
And lead us not to incarceration,
But deliver us from hangovers.
For thine is the beer,
the bitter, and the lager.
Forever and ever,
pass the pretzels.

Story:
My First 10 Years at Dave Fest
1997
Inaugural year - Mark spiked the sangria - Darlene, my 2 sisters and I were nicknamed the "Sauce Girls" - we also took a try at playing with the band - had such a good time, vowed to come back from then on
1998
the year Dave met Shawn - we had a trailer instead of a tent - the year of the pig roast - the Sweeney Sisters were at the party - Grizzly Adams kept us up most of the night with unusually loud snoring - someone got hit with the ball during softball and the offender later tore the ligaments in his knee (devine retribution!)
1999
the first year that the Bulldogs attended the party (they've been back ever since - we can't shake them!) - the softball tournament for the Poutine Cup became a tradition - let the rivalry begin!
2000
the penis cup first makes it appearance - synchronized seating routine by the fire - Stephen is saved from rolling over the dock at night by a mermaid - he thought he was dreaming
2001
Darlene and I play Cupid and yet another couple (Dave and Shona) meets at the party and get married within a year or so
2002
all the regulars are given a name from the Austin Power movie franchise - one of the female agents lives up to her name - Mini-Me goes undercover with the swingers - we are still waiting for the report
2003
began initition of new members by giving them a porno name (courtesy of learning about it at Labatt 24 Hour Relay) - some notable names include "Hot Poker" and "Head Dick" - shooter night is intiated and the Rookies find out they can hold their liquor better than the Bulldogs - first t-shirt contest
2004
intiated karaoke - tatoo contest
2005
Shawn's soccer team first attends the party - they take over running the karaoke and become the karaoke mamas - we had a porcupine peeping tom on one of the trees in the back - hawaiin contest where I won a male blow up doll
2006
brought up the blow up doll I won last year - it was nicknamed Rick the Dick and it was a hit with the boys (go figure!) - the yung uns were posing in the speedos (nice view!)
2007
can't wait for yet another year of fun - favourite memory will be submitted after the party

This was my third time at the party, and this year was the best one I've been to. I felt very at ease knowing the perimiter was clear and the gatekeeper stayed awake all night. I even seen a fish eating duck with hair just like Rooster, but red. I also saw the crane, loons and a red fox. Not to mention the human loons and foxes. It was simply a blurr and a blast.

Well, it's hard to come up with just one memory of that very long day. If I have to, it would be my first scuba diving experience thanks to Guy. Although I didn't find that beer bottle at the bottom of the lake, it gives me something to shoot for next year. I have to throw in the band as well and how they let everyone sing (regardless of voice), most of us don't get that chance for our 15 minutes of Mick Jagger like fame. The ball game brings fond memories as well as the activities around the firepit, whether it be keeping war, talking with my sweetie, staring at it, playing "flip", or making up a song.

Well Dave I had an excellent time going up to your cottage once we actully found it. Some of my most memorable times were staying up Friday night with you and talking about this and that and seeing who could stay up the longest. Well we know who won that one. Another was winning the baseball game and having a slave for the rest of the night. Or the sauce girls making the Sangria which was a great hit I believe. Or just sitting around the camp fire discussing Morton's toe and listening to Steve play AC/DC "You Shook Me All Night Long" on his guitar. On the way back home Steve, Adelaide and I saw a bear. We had to slow down while he was crossing the 4 lane highway. That was a first for me. I hope to go up to your cottage next year because I had a fantastic time.

Between
Brian (Deviant) Deavey, representing Revenue Canada
and
Stephen Lloyd, representing ISPR
Be it know, as agreed upon by both parties appearing as signatories to this statment, that metaphorically speaking, fire can be both, and, simultaneously, alluring, captivating
and entrancing; concomitant with the elements it holds of metaphysical mutuality with creativity. In all respects, a vision of open-mindeness, torelance and optimism is accepted as the cornerstone upon which the relevent signatories attitude is built. Further be it know, and in deference to the obiligations designated as essential upon all those to whom this document presents, and in substantiation to it, that fish cannot be caught with burnt cheesies.
To this statement are our names affixed.

Story:
Simply saying that a good time was had by all is not adequate to describe the frolicking and joviality that went on at the 2003 DaveFest.
DaveFest which was held at Bremner/St- Jean Lodge on Patterson Lake began with the snap of a beer can being opened (actually ended that way too).
Friday’s activities….swimming, fishing and sunbathing were just a prelude to the fun filled evening to come. A delectable dinner was prepared after which the serious part of the festival began….namely imbibing. Seated around the campfire were the elite of beer drinkers and inside the lodge were the initiators of a ghastly plot to halt the beer drinkers in their tracks. A few evil-minded folk contrived wicked (read delicious) drinks called “Shooters” and delivered them to the unsuspecting innocents. Needless to say, the party turned from a campfire sing-along to a rockin’ and rollin’ (some disco too) craze. Even the Radio City Rockettes could not have kept up with the maddened mode of dancing that went on after that. With good music played till daybreak, those who could crawled to their resort rooms to throw up….errr….refresh themselves for another day.
On Saturday, a baseball game planned after a lumberjack breakfast was a washout. Nature may have given the revelers soggy like surroundings but it could not dampen the spirits of the merrymakers. Card games were decided to be the replacement exertion. Those with very few athletic abilities were elated. With cunning, some skill and the luck of the draw, egos were raised or stomped into the carpet.
Apparently, this is an internationally known Festival since telephone calls came from as far away as Australia. We also, have uncovered the fact that the Aussies are envious of our ability to consume great quantities of beer and have a covert organization called DTUTT (Drink Them Under The Table), and is headed by an individual named Russ (likely an alias), who has infiltrated our group probably trying to learn our secret.
Later that evening, with a top-notch band called Sweet ‘n’ Low Down another party got underway. Several partiers were seen to be drinking….arrgghhh…..just water. As well as boogieing, a T-shirt contest (no, not wet) took place. A winner from each category, the funniest, most obscene and most original was selected. The Smithsonian called to request that they, the T-shirts not the wearers be donated for exhibition.
With many thanks going to Shawn and Dave, the Hosts’ with the Mosts, this reviewer gives two thumbs up for a well-planned, well-located, well put together, well-liked, well-mannered, well-matched, well-merited, well-nigh (?), well-made, well-ordered, well-drunk rootin’, tootin’ party.
In conclusion, a good time was had by all.
